About us
Although this charming building is considered a Georgian property dating from 1734, legend, rumour and tell tale signs indicate that there stood a much older property here.It is even rumoured that the monks built a tunnel under the Monk's House in the 12th century. The town, l;ike many throughout this region of Lancashire and Yorkshire, is alive with legends and mystery, with many a local with a tale to tell. We have maintained the architectural style of the building and added only to its comfort and functionality.

Barnoldswick is a border town that is influenced as much by Yorkshire as it is by Lancashire, it is also a town steeped in history and can trace its past back to the time of the Vikings when it was known as Bernulfsuuic. The Leeds and Liverpool canal winds through the town and we have our own marina, walks, picnic areas and cycle routes. Although a small town, Barnoldswick has all the amenities you could need, including a gym, golf club, swimming baths and a host of pubs, cafes and restaurants. Shopping is particular to the area, with an abundance of Mill shops.
In the surrounding area, the whole of Lancashire and Yorkshire are within easy reach of nearby motorway links and the choice of activities is vast; with walking, riding, cycling, golf, fishing and bird watching of particular prominence locally. Other towns and villages in the area offer their own unique character, shopping and dining choices and there is good public transport for those without a vehicle and ample parking here at The Monks for those with.
